A Message From Our Advisor...
Dear Operation Peace Love & Bread Lovers,
Welcome back. I hope you all had a good summer. I hope you are as excited as I am to be on campus. I am looking forward to a lot of great baking with you this year.
To the board members who worked so hard last year, over the summer, and who are already hard at it: Thank you. Your work inspires me, your professionalism humbles me, and your time management just plain scares me. Elizabeth, Kayla, Isabella, and Victoria: take a bow. They are behind the scenes making it all happen.
Last year we made our presence known. This year let’s make our presence felt. How can we do that?
Until we bake again,
Chef Stamm
Welcome back. I hope you all had a good summer. I hope you are as excited as I am to be on campus. I am looking forward to a lot of great baking with you this year.
To the board members who worked so hard last year, over the summer, and who are already hard at it: Thank you. Your work inspires me, your professionalism humbles me, and your time management just plain scares me. Elizabeth, Kayla, Isabella, and Victoria: take a bow. They are behind the scenes making it all happen.
Last year we made our presence known. This year let’s make our presence felt. How can we do that?
- Admissions is contacting technical schools and junior colleges to invite their students join us for bakes. This will give us the opportunity to mentor more young bakers as we continue our mission of serving the community.
- We will try to have a minimum of ten bakes this year. September is a busy month for everyone, and if you look at our events calendar, you will notice October is busy also. We can find plenty of excuses not to schedule; however, those excuses are far outweighed by our purpose. Can we do it? “Yes we can.”
- We can align with other groups and organizations. Centennial House is open to collaboration and other clubs have expressed an interest. I’m sure we will field many more inquiries.
- We can work with Susan Connery at the Feinstein Office of JWU so we can have a greater impact.
- We can have flexible shifts on bake days to accommodate your schedules. One idea is to have an early shift and a late/closing shift. Of course if you love it, you could work both shifts. The end of the day is intensive with packaging, cleaning, and delivering. Quite often that’s when our numbers have dwindled; that portion of the day is just as critical. Let’s look at ways to streamline and become more efficient just as a business would.
- We can look at ideas and opportunities other than bread bakes to learn and share.
- We are offering two great educational opportunities in October. We can continue to search for similar opportunities.
- We can continue to seek corporate support. Chef Miscovich has shared his connections for honey and yeast.
- We can post our baking dates well in advance – all Preview dates are in the calendar and future dates will be posted as far in advance as possible.
- Form committees; work independently & transparently to set and achieve our goals.
- GOALS, oh yeah, goals. Elizabeth informed me we need goals. Let’s work together (code for: contact her) with your ideas. All ideas are equal and will be presented and evaluated as such. Consider joining or forming a committee to help create and achieve our goals.
- No more speeches from me (please….hold your applause). No need to state the obvious. We all know why we meet and bake. Rants, however, are another thing………
- No one is expected to attend every bake. If you attend one, two, or ten bakes, your contribution is valuable and appreciated. The door is always open. If someone can make only one or two bakes a year that is a great contribution. Please do not feel pressured to participate in every event or feel bad because you miss some. That said, it’s easy to come in if you just think of our mission statement. And, there are other ways you can support us.
- The bakery breakfast will remain the best-kept secret on campus.
Until we bake again,
Chef Stamm
